ABOUT PITTOCK MANSION:
Pittock Mansion is a 1914 historic house museum, operated by the Pittock Mansion Society. The premises include the mansion, the Gate Lodge and the Garage with beautiful gardens adjacent to the Pittock Vista Point. The mission of the organization is to inspire understanding and stewardship of Portland history through Pittock Mansion, its collections, and programs. Having grown to well over 100,000 annual visitors in recent years, Pittock Mansion is one of the top tourist destinations in Portland.
Pittock Mansion is seeking a part-time Buildings Caretaker who will be responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the three historic structures on the site: Pittock Mansion, Gate Lodge, and the Garage. The Buildings Caretaker reports to the Director of Facilities and Operations and is a key position in the general maintenance and cleaning of the three historic structures within the context of long-term historic preservation. The duties for this role are a combination of custodial and technical tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Vacuuming and dusting of interior rooms and spaces that includes baseboard cleaning, decorative rails, window-sills, light fixtures, and hard surfaces in all three buildings (daily on rotational schedule based on buildings/sections).
Cleaning of interior and exterior windows that are accessible (daily on some, rotational schedule on others)
Terrace sweeping and debris removal (weekly)
Regular vacuuming, dusting and cleaning of the Visitor Bay area in the Garage (when it is reopened)
Dusting and cleaning of chandeliers and exterior light fixtures in the mansion and gate lodge (bi-monthly)
Clean/mop back stairwells and back hallways in the mansion and gate lodge (weekly)
Changing lightbulbs in all the three buildings (as needed; frequent task)
Monitoring and assisting with regular maintenance of the historic plumbing fixtures in all three buildings (monthly)
Cleaning of all non-artifact materials in the mansion and gate lodge including interpretive panels, stanchions, and props both inside (weekly).
Cleaning of grounds interpretive panels (weekly) and graffiti removal (as needed)
Conduct annual hardwood floor cleaning and waxing within the guidelines of historic preservation (annually)
Tracking and ordering of facility and maintenance supplies
Work order and maintenance scheduling and communication with Portland Parks and Recreation staff (as needed)
Cobwebbing and pest control monitoring in all three buildings (weekly)
Light repair and handyperson tasks (as needed)
Office and storage space reorganization, cleaning, moving furniture, boxes and equipment and helping with set up (as needed)
Other duties as assigned and based on needs
Minimum 2–3 years custodial and general maintenance experience (experience working with historic structures a plus)
Ability to follow directions and meet set expectations but work independently with little to no supervision on a day-to-day basis.
Good interpersonal and oral communication skills with ability to work with staff across the organization

Eye for detail and proactive problem solver
Flexibility in scheduling based on organizational needs
Experience working with alarm systems
Basic technical skills such as email communication and ability to produce simple reports/charts
Must be able to lift 50 to 80 lbs and have the ability to bend, lift, carry, and regularly climb stairs
Must be able to move, climb, and work from ladders particularly using a specialized stair ladder to maintain chandelier over grand staircase
Must be to work outside in seasonal weather conditions
